This heartwarming LGBT musical comedy we have in store explores how far one goes to make a dream a reality with a cast of characters that prove, “there’s no people like show people.”

Waiting In The Wings: The Musical is a feature film where two entertainers, destined for the big time, are mismatched in a casting office from two very different online contests. Tony, a stripper from New York, is cast in an Off-Broadway musical and needs to trade in his tear-away trunks for tap shoes and tights. Anthony, a naive musical theatre enthusiast from Montana, needs to decide if he can strip all the way down just to stay in town. Hilarity ensues as they realize that “to make it” they’re gonna have to learn some new tricks. Shirley Jones, Sally Struthers, and Lee Meriwether round out this heartwarming homage to Broadway with some delightful cameos.

This fantabulous movie has won a long list of awards which includes: The Celebration of Courage Award, Best Feature Film, Best Musical, Festival Favorite at several LGBTQ Film Festivals, and many more! The Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is thrilled to be able to screen this for the Boise community! Get your tickets soon because we expect the show to sell out with the potential of adding a second showing! We have also been blessed with the opportunity to offer a Q&A session with the writer, producer, and lead actor Jeffrey A. Johns afterwards! Be sure to prep your diaphragm for rumbling, riotous and rambunctious laughter because this film is hilarious with a positive and poignant message! So grab your friends, family, and a big bucket of popcorn and join the chorus in an exciting, unique and inspiring experience!

Hear ye, Hear ye! Come one, come all! At The Lights of the Rainbow concert you’ll have a ball! Call family, text friends, and Facebook the rest. We’ll be singing out proudly and looking our best! So go grab your tickets, we’ll hold you a chair. It’s our end of season concert. Can’t wait to see you there!

The Boise Gay Men’s Chorus has done it again! The Lights of the Rainbow will have audiences laughing, crying, and cheering for more! We’ve packed in hits that will have entire audiences tapping their toes, while touching on serious topics in Idaho like anti-bullying and coming out. It’s time we raise our gay voices to let Idaho youth know its right to celebrate diversity! Therefore, the BSU Special Events Center is about to get a lot gayer when the members of the BGMC kick off Boise Pride Week June 13th and 14th.

The Lights of the Rainbow concert pairs prideful and popular songs with a program called “When I Knew.” This program was premiered in 2012 by the Heartland Gay Men’s Chorus of Kansas City. “This is a new and exciting type of programming we like to call a musical documentary,” says artistic director Adam Wade Duncan. “It combines music, narration, choreography, staging, and often new technologies with different types of projection or video.” In “When I Knew,” the chorus looks at moments in members’ lives when they realized they were gay or different. For many, these experiences were accompanied by being teased, made fun of, or bullied. The coming-out stories related in the program originate directly from BGMC members. This concert is meant to combat bullying and gay-teen suicide and deliver the message “It Gets Better.” All parents, youth, and allies are urged to bring any friends and family that can benefit from hearing this message of love and understanding in Idaho.

Additionally, at each concert, a pair of tickets to the SOLD OUT performances of “The Book of Mormon” in Boise will be raffled off so be sure to get entered to win! Come celebrate this epic performance that will open minds through positive, creative, and personal expression.

BGMC Takes Broadway Style & Flair to Eastern Idaho

image6
In March, the Boise Gay Men’s Chorus performed two outreach concerts in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. Each city got a dose of Broadway flair through song, as the chorus performed a variety of hits from award winning musicals like Cats, Rent, Hairspray, Les Miserables, and more! As usual, BGMC added their own special touch to many songs, updating gender roles in hits traditionally sung by women. Each show was hosted by local organizations, both Dragapalooza in Idaho Falls and FCUCC and Trinity Episcopal churches in Pocatello. These concerts, while performed for vastly different audiences, shared similar messages through the variety of Broadway show themes. Most importantly, each song performed was a message of love, hope, and inspiration. Continue reading

Boise Gay Men’s Chorus Takes Gay Pride To Eastern Idaho

In September, BGMC represented the treasure valley by performing three outreach concerts as part of Idaho Pride Tour 2014. In late September, Boise, Twin Falls, and Idaho Falls each got a dose of gay pride through song, as the chorus performed music that touched upon serious Idaho LGBT topics as well as comedic songs that received laughter and applause. Each concert was free, with voluntary donations gladly accepted. This was to ensure their voices and message was available to everyone who wanted to listen.

BGMC East ID Tour 1

The program consisted of both serious and fun songs. Michael Stear performed Michael’s Letter To Mama beautifully, bringing many people to tears. Marry Us was a song that director Adam Wade Duncan said “we will proudly sing on the Idaho Capital steps soon.” Other comedic pieces like I’m Available and Hello Heterosexuals kept the audience laughing unexpectedly. Ending each concert, the song Color Out of Colorado included “choralography” that displayed coordination and comedy that left everyone in high spirits. Overall, each performance was well received and people were grateful for a visit from the newly formed Boise chorus. “Boise Pride and BGMC successfully brought diversity and more gay pride to Idaho cities that don’t normally have access to these types of performances.” Rodney Busbee, organizer of Boise Pridefest.

BGMC East ID Tour 2

The mission of the Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is to open hearts and minds through creative expression. The chorus has truly accepted and exemplified this mission, as chorus members financed themselves on tour, as well as volunteered an informational booth at the Idaho Falls Gay Pride Festival. They handed out temporary tattoos, candy, and most importantly talked to people about the chorus. “We want to let everyone know that we are here and growing. BGMC is one of the newest gay men’s choruses in the country and we want to become a leader for LGBT voices in Idaho.” Doug Rinard, chorus member.

Looking forward to the upcoming 2014-2015 season, BGMC has just announced their concert series titled “Light Up Boise”. The Lights of Christmas in December, The Lights of Broadway in March, and The Lights of the Rainbow, featuring “When I Knew” in June. These three concerts are sure to delight and inspire listeners to remember those people in our lives that truly act as a “guiding light”. Newly hired artistic director Adam Wade Duncan promises to bring both a serious reflection through song, as well as offer a whimsical and “tongue in cheek” program that we all have come to love from the gay men’s choral movement. Boise Gay Men’s Chorus – Season 2!

After welcoming many talented singers at auditions in September, the Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is forward focused to the upcoming 2014-2015 season. This season, BGMC hopes to create a non-singing volunteer support group, create outreach programs and alliances in Idaho, and begin to fundraise to attend the 2016 GALA Choruses convention in Denver.

BGMC Season 2 - 3

The mission of the Boise Gay Men’s Chorus is to open hearts and minds through creative expression. This mission stems from its core values that are Love, Integrity, Respect, Ingenuity, and Community. BGMC strives to help create a world in which all people are given a chance to develop a greater compassion for each other and where differences are celebrated. Where all people, or gender identity, have equal access to the arts and the freedom to express their diverse cultural identities. Above all, we strive to create a world in which choral music is appreciated and embraced as being vital to cultural and spiritual health.

We hope to excel as an artistic organization, renowned for its leadership, high standards, and innovation. We will build bridges with communities to create an increased understanding of affection for choral music and the LGBT community. Think of us as a place to nurture and affirm LGBT culture and community. We hope to raise awareness and funds for fledgling groups and allied causes, while providing a caring and safe environment for our members, volunteers and staff.

BGMC Seasib 2 - 2

Among the many contributions that members make, lay a personal responsibility to become a donor of the chorus in the form of dues. Every nonprofit arts organization incurs costs to exist. Along with ticket sales, annual dues are critical to the success of the organization. These dues are used for things such as music rights and purchase, artistic salaries, venue fees, and general operating costs. To help offset cost to members who cannot meet the financial requirements, we offer scholarship and sponsorship opportunities. To find out how you can sponsor a member or even become a volunteer, check out our website at http://www.boisegaymenschorus.com.
