The River Room

The River Room is located in downtown Boise inside the Whole foods market location, in the upstairs portion. A great location for that after work beer and appetizers before heading home, it has a large selection of ales, stouts and other fun IPA’s.

A great location with a view of Table rock and of Broadway Ave, I recently had the pleasure of dining with a few of my friends there on a nice evening. We ordered from the menu a few variety of appetizers and salads. Starting with the Coconut Chicken Tenders with sweet chili sauce, I found it to be a nice sweet spice flavor that made the chicken pop, great snack size and I paired it with a nice Blue Moon First Peach.

My friends had the Black bean Avocado salad on fries and also the Greek BLT chopped salad; both being very colorful and full of good greens and aromas, one of my friends had the Woodland Empire Empowered IPA which she described as “fresh, citrusy, with a nice balance of hops, not too fruity and not too bitter.”

Important facts to note is the upstairs has a capacity of 80 people and does have sports playing on the screens, I loved the atmosphere of the location and the people. Don’t hesitate to ask the staff about recommendations when it comes to the beer, you might be surprised to see what you might like.

Sugar Rush Cupcakery

Who can say no to a Maple Bacon Cupcake? Or perhaps, a Reese’s cupcake?

These are just a couple of the choices you have when visiting Sugar Rush Cupcakery.

Formerly known as Family Ties Catering & Cakes, and in Business for more than 16 years, this little shop has plenty to offer.

Locally owned and operated by Linda Lee; she considers herself a local gourmet cupcake chef.

And who can blame her? In addition to the maple bacon and Reese’s, by far the most popular of their selection, they also have a Tiger Tail cupcake, which I found as my personal favorite. The Tiger Tail is a Raspberry Coconut cupcake.

In addition to cupcakes, Sugar Rush offers wedding cakes and specialty cakes, all of which use real butter in their recipes.

Janjou Pâtisserie

This locally owned boutique bakery offers what can be described as delicious French and European blends of flavors that are sure to inspire you. The quality of their products are outstanding along with the presentation, whether it be from the Austrian cheesecake to the ham and cheese croissant, it is sure to leave you purely satisfied. Warm greetings and great staff make this an amazing location. The owner and Head Patissière, Moshit Mizrachi-Gabbitas is as friendly as they come, always helpful and greeting each time I have been there, whether the order is small or larger the service of the shop is excellent. The shop does specialize in their unique hand crafted pastries, cookies and other savory dishes, with special orders on request with the right amount of planning and time. Two of my favorites were the Apple tart and the éclair, both were not the store bought sweet but rather what I would expect a good sweet should taste like, of course not all our pallets are the same so I would recommend go check it out, enjoy yourself.
